Yoga

As an ERYT-500 yoga instructor registered with Yoga Alliance, I have reached the highest international standard and have training that extends beyond this standard.

I started practicing yoga in 1999, but it wasn’t until 2012 that I completed my first teacher training. My foundation as a yoga teacher is in Integral Yoga, a health-based practice used to restore the body and promote “an easeful body, a peaceful mind and a useful life.” Much of my yoga training is focused on making yoga accessible to everyone, from teenagers to those recovering from health concerns. I am specifically trained in hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, yin yoga as well as more health-targeted yoga  practices such as yoga for stress management, yoga for the stages of menopause, therapeutic gentle yoga, yoga for runners and yoga for teens.

Whether you choose private 1:1 instruction or group instruction, my emphasis in a yoga session is on cultivating mindfulness, alignment, breath awareness and relaxation. I believe it’s important to assess a client where they currently are, so I can provide the instruction to help them reach their goals in yoga. These may be physical goals like flexibility and strength or mental goals like clarity and peace.

Group instruction

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga emphasizes asana and breathing (pranayama) with mental focus so the individual can develop awareness, build strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Benefits include: increased flexibility and muscle tone, improved focus, reduced stress, increased breathing capacity, and further develops the connection between mind and body.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga emphasizes the connection between asana and the breath for a transformative and balancing effect. Classes build heat, endurance, flexibility and strength. The creative sequencing found in a vinyasa class is often built around the surya namaskar (sun salutations) . Vinyasa as a form is always evolving, so no two classes are entirely the same.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a meditative practice that targets the deep connective tissues of the body and the fascia that covers the internal organs; it’s designed to regulate the flow of energy in the body. Yin Yoga postures are more passive postures, mainly on the floor. Participants relax in the posture and soften the muscles, thereby targeting the tendons and ligaments. Yin yoga improves flexibility and is beneficial for those who run or cycle. While yang-like yoga practices are more superficial, Yin offers much deeper access to the body and mind. It is not uncommon to see postures held for three to five minutes.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation. Using the practice of iRest Yoga Nidra™ (Level 2) as a foundation for practice, this class emphasizes cultivating mindfulness, inquiry, relaxation and resiliency through curiosity and sensory awareness.

Therapeutic Gentle Yoga

Therapeutic Gentle Yoga focuses on working with individuals with specific needs, making yoga accessible to those who suffer from physical, mental and emotional challenges.

Yoga Workshops

Yoga Workshops are unique and can be run individually or as a series. Past workshops have included Yoga for Stress Management, Yoga for Self-Compassion, Yoga for Runners and Yoga To Reduce Inflammation, Yoga for the Stages of Menopause.
